Moscow/Russian Mule

Although I take advantage of enjoying a cocktail from time to time, I’m not connoisseur of alcoholic beverages.  I enjoy meeting the girls after work and of course when I’ve had one of those days I’ll have a glass of wine at home.

I like semi sweet beverages, for the past few months a Mojito has been my favorite.  Mainly because the home grown mint has taken over my backyard and I use the Mojito the thin it out.  Also because as many of my friends will attest, I make a rather vibrant pitcher of Mojitos in the summer.

I recently visited Gordon Biersch local restaurant with a few of my friends.  After arriving late as I usually do, I observed one the ladies drinking a cocktail out of a small brass mug.  I think I paid extra attention because of the mug, I thought it was cute.  After inquiring about the beverage, she stated it was a Moscow Mule.  Taking her up on her suggestion to sample her drink, I thought to myself.  I’ve missed something!

After finishing my glass of wine I ordered a Moscow Mule.  It reminded me of the Mojito, however there was a flavor in the cocktail that I didn’t recognize.  It was the Ginger Beer.  I instantly loved it.  The recipe is as follows:

  • 1 ounce vodka 1 tsp.
  • Sugar syrup
  • Fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup ginger beer
  • 1 sprig fresh mint
  • 1 slice of lime

Directions:
In a copper mug, pour vodka over ice. Add sugar syrup and lime juice. Top with ginger beer and stir. Garnish with mint sprig and lime slice.

It’s really simple and the combination of Vodka and Ginger beer has a kick.  The cocktail can be served I the usual cocktail glass but the brass mug gives the simple cocktail a little something extra. The mugs can be purchased at Marshalls or Bed, Bath and Beyond for under $10.00 each.

If you’re like and you enjoy a Mojito, you like this as well.  Let me know when you sample it, Enjoy!
